Poppy McGhee & Derek Paravacini
Violin & Piano Recital
3pm, Sunday 12 May
St Mary’s Church, BS28 4AA
Poppy McGhee is a local violinist who was our first young protégée and we are delighted to welcome her back to Wedmore.
She has recently gained a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, one of the major music conservatoires. Poppy has also raised thousands of pounds by playing her violin to help blind and autistic children. She is joined in this concert by her friend, Derek Paravicini who is a musical genius, autistic savant and blind pianist. He has thrilled audiences all over the world with performances at Buckingham Palace, Ronnie Scott’s, Las Vegas and even inside Downing Street! The programme will include favourites from Poppy’s repertoire, like The Lark Ascending, accompanied by Nick Lauener, and Derek’s eclectic mix from the worlds of jazz, pop, light music and even improvisation.
Proceeds from this concert are being donated to the Amber Trust, a national charity founded in 1995, dedicated to supporting visually impaired children in their musical development. Do come along to St Mary’s Church for what promises to be a fabulous afternoon of music-making for a very worthwhile cause.
